New Self-Catering Holiday House
Cullya-Quoy - Houton Bay, Orphir, Orkney

This new timber clad 4 Star Holiday House, sleeping up to 6- in 3 Bedrooms, was built during 2005. Situated approx 200 metres from the sea - or to be more precise - the huge Sheltered Anchorage of Scapa Flow -it enjoys an uninterrupted view over Houton Bay & Scapa Flow towards the SouthEast and South Ronaldsay.

Houton is on the SW side of the Orkney Mainland, close to Orphir, and is about 15 mins drive from Kirkwall, and 10 mins drive from Stromness. It is ideally situated for exploring most of Orkney's Mainland tourist attractions, and there is also a Licensed Pub 2 miles from the house which also offers evening meals. There are no local shops - but the Co-Operative Supermarket in Stromness is open until 10pm daily.

Featuring a very generously sized Open-Plan Living Room/Modern Kitchen Cullyaquoy is tastefully furnished and equipped to an unusually high standard, and should undoubtedly appeal to the more Discerning Visitor! The Master Bedroom has an En-Suite Shower, Sink & Toilet. Other features include the fitting of a Solar Panel to heat the Hot Water Tank, and a Heat Recovery System -which filters incoming fresh air, thereby reducing pollen etc - and also warms it by recovering heat from the vented air. Also the property has been planned from the start to be Unassisted Wheel Chair User friendly. Built to a Norwegian Design & Specification the whole house is extremely well insulated.

This 4 Star property is included in the VisitOrkney tourist brochure, and is also listed at Houton self Catering Cottage entry on VisitScotland.com

If requested I can email you scanned copies of my Brochure; Verbatim Extracts from My Visitor's Book; and a Map of Houton Bay showing Cullya-Quoy's location on it.. My EMail is JPShearer@aol.com.  I regret that I do not do not accept pets.

Note: The name "Cullya-Quoy" derives from 2 old Orcadian dialect words "Cullya" meaning a Seagull , and "Quoy" - a field. The pronunciation is evenly stressed as in "Kull - Yuh - Kwai" (The last as in the Classic Film "The Bridge On The River Kwai").
